Living Life
Maybe it is because of the pandemic and the hysterectomy I had, something opened up inside of me and I’m having this yearning for a meaningful, but simple life.
Right when the pandemic started, we sold the house and moved into an apartment. Gave away most of our things, except books and few pieces of furniture. It was exhausting to work hard to pay for a house, which was mostly for eating dinner, watching Netflix and sleeping.
During the lockdown and healing from the surgery, I had the time to look back on my life and imagine what’s ahead. I’m 47 years old, turning 48 in December. If I can live to 80, then half of my life is gone. Do I still want to say yes to social events, make small talks, make good looking Instagram grid? No, I don’t.
I watched some of the videos from YouTube channel 一条Yit (this, this and this) and got fascinated at how people choose to live away from the city and into the countryside. The idea of waking up early, tend to the garden, have breakfast, make art, read a book, have tea time, and make dinner sounds amazing. As I dreamed about living such life, my brain would instantly ask, “how do you make money?” I’m just so used to living to make money and not living this life.
Chiang Hsun, a Taiwanese artist who moved to the countryside said in one of the videos linked above, “I think inspiration comes from life. If you don’t have inspiration, then you are not living.”
Ok, I’m off to go live life. I hope you’ll have a meaningful week.
