Make Time for Earth
Watched a beautifully made video on YouTube about our place in the cosmic history. To me, it was a reminder of how much time it took to create Earth and to grow life. I felt so much love and privilege to be living here. And then I felt sad realizing in such short amount of time we are destroying this planet and being divided among each other.
How did we went from living with nature, being equal, to putting ourselves on the pedestal that nature and animals are here to serve us? The work for basic living (hunting, foraging, growing crops…) has been taken out of our hands. We are supposed to have extra time to do some extraordinary things, but instead we are spending time on what?
Neil deGrase Tyson said, “We have come to find significance as I’m special and everything else isn’t. Religions thinking they’re special, cultures thinking they’re special, individuals thinking they’re special. The top four ingredients in life, in your body, top four atoms in order: hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen. Do you know what are the top ingredients are in the universe? The top four chemically active atoms in the universe? Hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen. So upon learning that you’re not special because you do not contain special ingredients is the same fact that includes the idea that while we live in this universe the universe lives within us. We are special because we’re the same.”
I know I have not done enough. Putting papers and plastic into the recycling bin is nothing. It needs to be more, but I lack the knowledge to educate myself how to let go of comfort. The illusion of comfort that big corporate companies created with their genius marketing. After not spending time on watching news, reacting to them and engaging far less on social media, there’s time and space to examine what am I truly here to do. It can’t be just working for a paycheck, worrying about how to receive a bigger paycheck to pay for more things, figuring out how to get more likes on an Instagram post, scrolling through hours of social media content…
The conclusion is - let me work on myself first.

A great book to read — Diet for a Small Planet, written by Frances Moore Lappé. It inspired Ethan Brown to start his vegan meat company, Beyond Meat.
Beautiful, beautiful 40 minute film about trees created by Patagonia — Treeline | The Secret Life of Trees

I was shocked to realize the conversation about climate change started since the 70s. Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a French naval officer, explorer, conservationist, filmmaker, scientist, photographer, author and researcher, had urged everyone the importance of protecting this planet since 50 years ago. The documentary about his life is now on Disney+ — Becoming Cousteau
